What a childcare scope covers
Built to support Quality Area 2 — children's health and safety — with the documentation to back it up at assessment.
Rooms & play areas
- Floors vacuumed and mopped with child-safe, low-residue product
- Tables, chairs and activity surfaces sanitised
- Play mats and soft surfaces cleaned and sanitised
- Toy sanitising on a documented rotation
- Shelving, storage tubs and book corners wiped down
- Low-level glass and door handles sanitised
Hygiene-critical areas
- Nappy change benches and bins sanitised to a set procedure
- Children's toilets and hand basins cleaned and restocked
- Sleep rooms cleaned, cot frames and mattress bases wiped
- Bottle prep and kitchen areas sanitised
- Separate colour-coded equipment for nappy and bathroom areas
Outdoor & periodic
- Outdoor play surfaces swept and hosed down
- Sandpit surrounds tidied, edges cleared
- Verandah and entry areas pressure washed periodically
- Carpet and soft-fall steam cleaning
- High dusting, vents and light fittings
Every scope is built for the individual site — this is the starting point, not a fixed menu.
Assessment and Rating is where the cleaning scope gets tested
Educators are already carrying the load on health and hygiene documentation. A cleaning contractor should be reducing that burden, not adding to it.
- Every team member holds a current Working With Children Check as required under South Australian law — no exceptions, and we'll provide the register on request.
- Low-tox, child-safe chemicals only. No harsh residues on surfaces that children touch, mouth or sleep on, with SDS held on site for every product.
- Nappy change and bathroom areas use dedicated equipment that never touches a play surface. This is the control that matters most in a centre.
- Toy sanitising runs on a documented rotation, so you can show an assessor exactly when each group of resources was last done.
- We clean after close, not around the children. No cleaning chemicals in use while children are in the room, and no strangers in the service during operating hours.
A typical long day care service
Based on a 60–90 place centre with four rooms plus an outdoor play area.
Daily clean after close
All rooms, bathrooms, nappy change areas, sleep rooms and the kitchen. Usually two to three hours with a two-person team from around 6:30pm.
Weekly toy and mat rotation
Resources sanitised group by group on a documented cycle, so everything is covered across the month and recorded.
Fortnightly outdoor
Play surfaces hosed and scrubbed, verandah swept, sandpit edges cleared and soft-fall raked back.
Termly deep clean
Carpet and soft-fall steam cleaning, high dusting, and a full sanitise of storage — scheduled during a closure day where possible.
Childcare Centres — your questions answered
Do your staff hold Working With Children Checks?
Yes. Every team member attending a childcare or school site holds a current Working With Children Check as required under South Australian law, on top of a National Police Check. We keep a register and will provide it to your service for your staffing records.
What chemicals do you use around children?
Low-tox, child-safe products chosen for low residue on surfaces children touch, mouth or sleep on. Safety Data Sheets for everything we use are held on site. If your service has a preferred product list or an allergy consideration, we'll work to it.
Can you help with our Assessment and Rating documentation?
We can provide the cleaning side of it — signed records of every visit, the toy and mat sanitising rotation schedule, our cleaning method statements, and SDS for all products. That covers the evidence assessors typically ask a service to produce about cleaning under Quality Area 2.
Do you clean while children are present?
No. We clean after the service closes. No cleaning chemicals are in use while children are in the room, and there's no unfamiliar adult in the service during operating hours. If you need a daytime presence for spills or bathroom top-ups, that's a separate arrangement we can discuss.
